MISSION

The Mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Illinois is to provide service to Veterans and to our communities.  We accomplish this through various means.

Our Department operates a Veterans Service Office that assists Veterans in obtaining the benefits they have earned.  Our main Veterans Service Office is located at the VA Regional Office at the Jesse Brown Center in Chicago.  We also have branch offices in Danville  and Marion Illinois.  For further information on the Department of Illinois Veterans Service Office please go to the Service Office Web Page:

The Veterans of Foreign Wars operates a legislative office in Washington DC.  Through this office the VFW makes  your voices heard.  The National Veterans Service Office constantly promotes Veterans Issues on the hill.  The Department of Illinois is allowed two members on the National Legislative Committee.  These members, as well as the Senior State Officers travel to DC once a year to meet with our State's Congressmen and Senators to promote the well being of Veterans and our Active Duty Military.
Locally, the Department of Illinois appoints a State Legislative Director who monitors activity in the State Legislature, promoting Veterans Issues and guarding against cuts.

Our many Posts promote the programs of the VFW in the Community.  Please click on the programs tab at the top of the page to learn about all the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Illinois does.  Many of our Posts are active in food drives, clothing drives for the homeless, activities at local schools and are quick to donate to charities.  Numerous Posts provide wake and funeral services for departed Veterans.

The Department's Voice of Democracy Program and Patriots Pen Programs are a way for students in Illinois to win prizes for their work in speech or essay.  Please click here for the Patriots Pen entry   or here for the Voice of Democracy entry.
