BATAVIA 1197 HOSTS VIET NAM MOVING WALL TRIBUTE

Batavia VFW Post 1197 put into motion the planning that would come to fruition until May 1,2019 Untold hours by the committee, VFW and Auxiliary members coordinated efforts to bring the Viet Name Tribute Moving Wall from Naperville VFW Post 3873 to Batavia, Illinois. The opening ceremony included past VFW National Commander, George Cramer and Past Department of Illinois Commander Bill Wolf who was the keynote speaker. Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke also was present for not only the opening ceremony but also the closing ceremony May 5, when VFW Department Commander Don Boyer was invited to make closing remarks. Commander Boyer served in Viet Nam as a Combat Engineer, and Batavia Wall remarked that while he had been to the "Wall" in Washington, he felt local exhibits such as Batavia provided the local community an insight to the gravity and breath of the Viet Nam Wall. The exhibit was open and manned 24 hours a day until May 5th at 3:30 PM when it was disassembled for the return trip to Naperville the 325 S River St., Batavia. The exhibit will be open 24 hours a day for viewing and VFW members, volunteers will be available to answer questions.
